What is the Compass Project?
The YMCA of the Rockies is committed to youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Compass Project supports this commitment by providing the opportunity for you to change some frightening statistics. Research shows that children and teens spend approximately 7.5 hours in front of some type of screen and spend only 4 MINUTES PER DAY interacting in a meaningful way with nature.
Because over 25,000 youth participated in our outdoor and nature based programming last year, we see the Compass Project as a great way to educate and encourage even more young children and teenagers to connect with nature and teach them the need for future stewardship of our environment.
Diabetes, depression and obesity in the young are rising steadily and studies show that being outside in the natural world can improve both mental and physical health. With your support we can expand our programming, serve more youth and help more kids find their way outdoors.
Our Mission is to provide an environment that builds healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Donations to The Compass Project, through the Annual Campaign, will go toward increasing the outdoor programming we offer so we can serve more children and teens. By giving to the Compass Project you are recognizing the necessity of providing all children and teenagers with an opportunity to engage with and appreciate nature.
